Pearl Harbor USS Arizona Memorial

A free memorial program with scarce timed tickets, a strict bag ban, and a planning failure mode: booking a random “Pearl Harbor tour” when Recreation.gov was enough.

Planning facts

  • Category: pearl-harbor
  • Duration: Half day including transit from Waikiki
  • Advance booking: Recommended
  • Family-friendly framing: Yes
  • Mobility: Visitor center, museums, and memorial program areas are generally wheelchair accessible per NPS.
  • Details verified: 2026-08-15

What to bring

  • ticket QR code
  • water bottle
  • silent phone/camera
  • no bags (storage available for a fee)

Start with the free program—then decide if a tour helps

NPS: the USS Arizona Memorial program is free, but timed tickets are required via Recreation.gov only. Walk-up same-day tickets are gone. Recreation.gov charges a $1 non-refundable reservation fee per ticket.

Ticket windows that catch people

Per NPS / Recreation.gov guidance (reviewed 2026-08-15):

  • Primary release: up to 8 weeks ahead (rolling), historically at 3 p.m. HST
  • Secondary batch: 1 day ahead at 3 p.m. HST
  • Limits apply (commonly 5 tickets per reservation)—large families may need multiple bookings
  • Arrive ~1 hour early; program time is boat departure time

Create the Recreation.gov account before release day. Tickets can vanish in minutes.

Bag policy (non-negotiable)

Bags that can conceal items are generally prohibited at the visitor center. Fee-based private storage exists near the entrance. Cameras, wallets, water bottles, and phones are typically allowed—confirm current NPS rules before you go.

When a paid tour is worth it

  • You want hotel pickup and do not want to drive/parking logistics
  • You are combining multiple Pearl Harbor sites with timed transport
  • You failed ticket release and accept a structured alternative day

When a paid tour is unnecessary

If you already hold Arizona Memorial tickets and can get there by car/rideshare, many “from Waikiki” products are mostly transportation markup.

Navigation trap

Use 1 Arizona Memorial Place, not a generic “Pearl Harbor” pin that may route toward active base areas.
